Louila E. (Schuttler) Wasserburger, 91, died Friday, January 29, 2010 in Rapid City, SD.

Louila Elizabeth Scott was born October 1, 1918, at her grandparent’s farm near Canistota, SD. She lived in Monroe, SD until the age of 10 when her family moved to Mitchell, SD. She graduated from high school in Mitchell in 1936, and from Dakota Wesleyan University “Cum Laude” in 1940. She taught school at Farmer, SD and Code at the Sioux Falls Air Base before marrying Reynold C. Schuttler of Farmer, SD in 1943.

After her husband’s discharge from the Army in 1946, they resided in Sioux Falls, SD for 7 years before moving to Huron, SD where she worked and raised their family until Reynold’s death in 1966. While in Huron, she taught school in Yale, SD and later at Huron High School. In 1967, she moved to Hot Springs, SD where she began her career with the Dept. of Social Services. She married Charles Wasserburger in 1969 and after Charles’ death in 1971; she transferred to the DSS office in Sioux Falls and worked in Day Care Licensure from 1974 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of East Side Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls and served as Deaconess, Elder, Choir Director and Moderator of Presbyterian Women. She also served as a member of the SD Presbytery Council for 6 years and taught Bethel Bible Studies for 2 years. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron. She served as Grand Representative and Grand Librarian. She was Past President of the Sioux Falls Federated Women’s Club and later District President. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, serving as President in Hot Springs and Secretary in Sioux Falls. In addition, she was a member of 2 AAUW Book Clubs and was a past National Secretary of the Solo Parent’s Club.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, Reynold Schuttler of Springfield, VA and Richard Schuttler of Rapid City, SD as well as Richard’s two children: Harmony and Alexander Schuttler. She is preceded in death by her two husbands and by one son, Robert Schuttler. Wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Louila’s life was a testament to her faith, love and devotion. She will be missed.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening, Feb. 4th, at the George Boom Funeral Home, 3408 E. 10th Street, Sioux Falls, SD. with an Order of the Eastern Star memorial service to begin at 7:00 PM.

The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5th at the East Side Presbyterian Church, 1001 E. 6th St., Sioux Falls, SD with the committal services at approximately 3:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Huron SD.
