Sioux Falls – Dee E. “Babe” Hanson, 75, died Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.

A funeral service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at George Boom Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM to greet friends. As per Babe’s request, there will be no public viewing. Burial will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park.

Babe Stearns, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Curr) Stearns was born July 21, 1934 in Sioux Falls. She attended Whittier Middle School and Washington High School.

On November 3, 1956, Babe was united in marriage with Lyle E. Hanson in Sioux Falls. The couple spent many years in Colorado Springs before moving back to Sioux Falls. Babe worked as a waitress for Ray’s Drive Inn, and then for Murray’s Truck Stop, later known as Rentschler’s. She was awarded the first Waitress of the Year Award in 1969 by the Restaurant Association. Babe retired in 1976.

Babe was a member of the Woman of the Moose Post 503. She was a great candy maker and enjoyed baking cakes. Babe was also an avid card player.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Lyle of Sioux Falls; a daughter, Tracy L. Hanson of Sioux Falls; a grandson, Rich (Elisa) Albertus and their children, Alexis and Austin of Sioux Falls; two brothers, Bud (Virginia) Stearns of Colorado Springs, CO, Montie (Evelyn) Stearns of Sioux Falls; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Isadore Tebben; and a sister, Dollie Spade.

The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
