Lyle B. Fenstermaker was born December 31, 1922 to Roy and Dora (Brusse) Fenstermaker in Beaver Creek, MN. He later moved to Harrisburg where he graduated from high school. He attended Birmingham Southern College and completed specialized courses at the University of Michigan, Washington and Lee University and the University of Sioux Falls.
He married Irene Slack July 10, 1943 in Sioux Falls. He served in the Army and Air Force and after his honorable discharge in 1946 he returned to Sioux Falls to work for Centel Corporation. During his career he served in various management positions in the company’s South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Colorado properties. He was elected Vice President in 1975 and was in charge of Centel’s Kansas and Colorado electric operations until his retirement in 1986.
Lyle played an active role in South Dakota and Sioux Falls Community affairs. He was a past commander of the Harrisburg American Legion, a member of Governor Kniep’s Citizen’s Committee for Executive Reorganization and served on the Public Affairs Committee of the Greater South Dakota Association. He was a past president of the Sioux Falls Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce and Sales and Marketing Executives. He also served on the board of directors of First National Bank, Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, Credit Bureau, Jr. Achievement, United Way, Traffic Bureau and the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church. He was also a past director of the Sioux Falls Sertoma Club and the Sioux Falls Recreational Council.
He was a member of Zonta Masonic Lodge, V.F.W., Elks, First United Methodist Church and Minnehaha Country Club.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Irene; two daughters, Jill and her husband Rick Smook, Pamela and her husband Doug Dean, both of Sioux Falls; 8 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
