Hope Maybelline Scherff, daughter of Henry and Beulah (Swanson) Scherff, was born May 30, 1937, in Dell Rapids, SD. She grew up on a farm near Trent, SD and graduated from Trent High School in 1956. After high school she attended Nettleton Commercial College where she received her Associates Degree. She then began working as a secretary for the John Morrell Company.

Hope married Stewart Hegarty in Dell Rapids, SD on January 10, 1959. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. In 2009 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Stewart died on November 15, 2009.

In her free time Hope enjoyed bowling, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife and sister who will be greatly missed by those who shared her life.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Faith (Merle) Alberts, Dell Rapids, SD; brother, Charles Scherff, Trent, SD; nephew, Kevin (Trudy) Alberts, Dell Rapids, SD; nieces, Kathy (Jeff) McBrayer, Sioux Falls, and Kim (John) Stych, Cedar Rapids, IA; and nephew, Keith (Sarah) Alberts, Sioux Falls.

Hope was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Beulah Scherff; and husband, Stewart Hegarty.
