Sioux Falls, SD- Elaine R. White, 74, died on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Memorial service will begin at 4:00 PM on Monday, August 2, 2010 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
Elaine Smith was born on June 6, 1936 in White, South Dakota to Raymond Sr. and Ruth (Hansen) Smith. She received her education in White, graduating as White High School valedictorian in 1954. In October of 1954, Elaine was united in marriage with John Vaselaar in Hendricks, MN; out of this union the couple had two daughters. In 1956 the family moved to Sioux Falls and Elaine continued her education at Nettleton School of Business. Elaine worked at the Holiday Inn City Center as Director of Sales for 19 years. On July 4, 1969 she was united in marriage with Lyle White in Dakota City, NE. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Lyle died in December of 1985.
Elaine was a hard worker who enjoyed tending to her garden and flowers, reading and keeping up on current events, decorating her house for every holiday, and spending time with her family at their cabin on Brant Lake. Her family was the twinkle in her eye, she loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren above all. Elaine was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughers, Vicki (Doug) Kenison of Sioux Falls, SD and Lori (Tim) Basler of Wentworth, SD; five grandchildren, Alaina (Troy) Witte, Ashleigh (Cody) Nelson, Richard (friend, Jamie Gage) Byrnes, Tiffany (friend, Chad Hamman) Kenison, and Nicolas (friend, Heidi Otten) Kenison all of Sioux Falls, SD; five great-grandchildren, Haleigh Kamstra, Jaylyn Miller-Kenison, Bryleigh Nelson,
Jackson Witte and Kane Nelson; two brothers, LeRoy (Janice) Smith of Hemet, CA, and Ricke (Patty) Smith, Sioux Falls, SD; cousin and advisor, Sherry Cook of Brookings, SD.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Sr. and Ruth Smith; brother, Raymond Smith Jr.; sister, Vanessa Nikcevich; 1st husband, John Vaselaar and 2nd husband, Lyle White.
