Life Legacy

Sioux Falls, SD – Marcella E. Kruger, 100, died on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Southridge Health Care Center in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM on Thursday at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 PM.

Marcella Engel was born on June 18, 1912 at Avon, South Dakota to Rudolph and Kathryn (Hubner) Engel. She received her education there graduating from Avon High School. She then continued her education; earning her teaching certificate at Southern Normal College in Springfield, SD. She then spent one year teaching, before spending 15 years as a postal clerk in Avon.

Marcella was united in marriage with A. Karl Palmer in August of 1947. The couple was blessed with a son, James Karl Palmer and a daughter, Ruth Marie Palmer. Marcella made her home in Sioux Falls in 1953. On July 8, 1977 Marcella was united in marriage with Wilbert Kruger. The couple made their home here in Sioux Falls. Wilbert died in 1982.

Marcella considered herself a Baptist her entire life; and at the age of 13 accepted Jesus Christ her personal savior. She taught Sunday school and Bible school, sang in the choir in Avon and at First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls. She was a member of the Mr. & Mrs. Class, and later the Ambassador Class. The First Baptist Women’s Circle, The Golden Glow, New Horizons Bergland Center, Gloryhouse Auxiliary, Baptist Study Club of Sioux Falls & Sioux Valley Auxiliary. She held many offices in these clubs and enjoyed volunteer work. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed her many friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, James Palmer, Sioux Falls and Ruth (Jeff) Johnson, Kingman, AZ; one step-son, Dave (Mavis) Kruger, Pierre, SD; two grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Johnson, Henderson, NV; 3 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great grandchildren; sister, Elvira (Harold) McMullen, Hastings, NE; niece, Bonnie McMullen, Lincoln, NE; nephew, Norman (Amy) McMullen, Windsor, VT; great nephew, Tristan McMullen; and great-niece, Emily McMullen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Kathryn Engel; husband, Wilbert Kruger; step-son, Stan Kruger; brother, Joe Engel; and sister, Doris Pudwill.
